‘Fast Andy’ Fortner lived up to his name again at the King City Dirt Riders hillclimb on September 28, picking up his NINTH fast time of the 2002 season. Riding his Honda CR500 in the 600cc class, his first round time of 4.201 seconds was never matched all evening – nor all weekend. His second ride of 4.215 seconds was second fastest of the night. ‘Crazy Jake’ Tackit was his closest competitor, topping the 180 foot hill in 4.220 seconds on the Gayle Jenkins Honda, with Nate Simenic third on his KX500 in 4.217 seconds. Jared McKay and Josh Denson tied for 4^th with 3.253 second times, with McKay claiming that position in the tiebreaker ride.

Fortner claimed a second class win, turning in a good 4.292 second run on his Kawasaki Triple to win the 750 class. Paul Hillard ran second on his triple in 4.485 seconds with Jason Northrup, also on a triple, taking third. John Potter and Rich Bell took the next two spots.

Fortner nearly had a perfect night, taking the first round lead in the 400 Stock class with a 4.439 second run on his CR250. But class point leader Matt Ringstrom flew his KX250 over in 4.392 seconds to take the class lead, bumping Fortner to second place. Gary Edmison, R.J. Watson and Jon Creek filled in the rest of the top five places.

Chad Cox also had a double win evening, taking the wins in both the 85CC Senior Mini and 125cc classes. His 5.231 second run on his CR80 was good enough to beat the class point leader, Mike Popham, who delivered a 5.360 second time on his YZ85. In 125cc Class action, Cox turned a 4.563 second time on his KTM in the first round, and that time held up for the win. His 4.649 second round time was actually second fastest, as Damon Mayo was his closest challenger with a 4.688 second run on his Suzuki. Paul Hart, Nick Mayo and Billy Hanes grabbed the next three spots.

Sixty year old Keith Klett enjoyed his first class win of the year in the Super Senior (+50) class, riding Bud Northrup’s YZ250 over the top in 5.074 seconds. The ‘Old Pro’, Gayle Jenkins took second on his CR500 in 5.173 seconds, followed by Richard Potter and ‘Oldbud’ Northrup.

Mike Bacon also joined the winner’s circle, riding his vintage Maico 490 to the win in the Open Stock class with a 4.834 second come from behind second round time. He overtook Jammie Brown, Curtis Moore and James Fulton to take the win, with Travis Sandy claiming fifth.

In other youth class action, Dylan Brady took the 50CC class win with a 6.282 second run on his Polini, with Jeremiah Lyday taking second on his PW50. Justin Trent posted a 5.486 second time on his KX80 to grab the 85CC Junior Mini win, with Cody Rankin running second.

In other amateur class action , Jake Tackitt was the 200cc Class winner with Curtis Moore second, Gary Edmison was the winner in the 250 class with Gary Slater second, and Jason Northrup won the 450 class with Paul Hillard second.

Randy ‘Buzz’ Green took the Open class win with David Price second, but Price came back with his beautiful Triumph to win the Pushrod class with Green and his Harley taking second. Scott Petty was the best of the Seniors with Darrell Trent second, Curt Randall was the 600 4-stroke winner and Paull Hillard grabbed the Quad class win, Casey Kimble taking second.
