2006 Big Time Hillclimb May 27th - 28th, 2006 |

The 2006 BIG TIME
Hillclimb turned out to be wet......way too wet! Several inches
of rain within a five day period that landed right on Memorial
weekend!
Mindy and I would
like to thank our family and friends who helped prepare for the
event. It takes alot more work than most people realize to put a
good hillclimb together and it's really frustrating when
everything is in place just to have Mother Nature shut it
down. This is an outdoor event and sometimes the weather will
not cooperate. But life goes on!
We would like to
thank the riders who attended our event and braved the nasty
weather. The moral amongst the riders was still very optimistic
even though the conditions were not good. It was frustrating
for some riders who didn't get to compete at all because their
class was rained out. All of these riders will have entry credit
towards our next event so they will get another chance!
The Trophy classes
that did get completed on Saturday had some excellent
competition. I changed the Trophy hill a bit for the 125, 250,
550, and Four-stroke classes. The riders adapted to the new hill
and really put down some fast times. The Canadian family of Sid
Seitz really made their KTMs perform! Travis Seitz won the 550
class and his dad , Wildman Sid, brought home third place.
Travis Seitz
also did well in the 250 class with a third place finish but the
local Loma boys really put on a show to take the top two spots.
Justin Anderson of Loma appeared to have the class won with his
ride of 8.527 seconds... BUT Loma Brice Bomgardner wasn't going
to let it happen! Brice had a smokin' first ride put together
but ended up crashing HARD at the 181 foot mark. His dad and I
were standing 10 feet away when Brice planted his bike into the
ledge! Not to be outdone Brice picked himself up and went back
to the staging area. When his second turn came up we were ready
to watch his new strategy. He left the starting line perfectly
and was headed up the hill even faster than the first attempt!
His dad and I were waiting at the previous crash site to witness
what was about to happen. It was perfect! Brice tapped the rear
brakes at about 160' and maneuvered his bike up and over the
ledge without loosing hardly any speed! He was up and over the
top with a 8.038 second ride! This put him in the lead and it
held! Congratulations Justin and Brice on your impressive
riding!
The 125cc
class was also dominated by the local Loma boys. Brady
Bomgardner and Jason Allderdice took home first and second place
with their 125's. It was pretty impressive since both riders had
just purchased their new bikes and this was their first time
competing on them.
The 0-700 and
701-Open Qualifier classes had some great competition happening
on Saturday. Ed Taylor was blazing fast on his KTM and took
first place in the 0-700cc qualifier. Dustin Quast, Cord
Mitchell, and Cory Erhardt ended up second, third and fourth.
The 701-Open
Qualifier Class won by Corey Erhardt of Billings with Pete
Loomis, Toby Ezell, and Tad Chenowith coming in second, third,
and fourth. It was interesting to watch Chuck Dubell ride his
big bike again. He wasn't on the bike very much but he was
definitely on the gas! Also notable was Chris Axelsen getting
into the top ten with a new Big bike that he had just finished
building the night before!
It would have been
great to climb on the New BIG TIME Hill on Sunday but Mother
Nature said "No!" The hill will be waiting for the riders next
spring in 2007. (The 2006 BIG TIME Hillclimb will not be
rescheduled in 2006.)
The BIG TIME
Traveling Trophy was awarded to Corey Erhardt for his
outstanding finishes in the Saturday 0-700 and 701-Open classes.
We would like to say
thanks to the spectators who showed up with canopies and rain
gear. We appreciate your support. If you have a red wristband it
will be good for gate credit towards future Halter Motorsports
events.
Stay tuned for our
next event!
The Rattle Snake
Ridge Hillclimb will be hosted at the Halter Motorsports Ranch
August 26 and 27 of 2006 (one week before Labor Day weekend!)
Get ready for a
great show on a Brand New Sunday Championship Hill!
